THE HAMBURG EXCHANGE
Origin of Hamburg's mercantile tradition
By prior arrangement we are pleased to take visitors' groups on a tour of
the Hamburg Exchange, Hamburg's bustling forum of trade information. Tours
last approximately 45 - 60 minutes and focus on the historic development of the
Hamburg Exchange and the Hamburg Chamber Of Commerce as part of the city's general history. The sole object
reminiscent of floor trading - discontinued on January 1, 2003 - is the
quotation board. Official brokers continue to trade from their offices in
Exchange Hall 1, using computers and telephone for their business transactions.
However, brokers from the Insurance Exchange meet every weekday at 1:30 P.M.
as do the Allgemeine Börse (general exchange) brokers at the same time on
Thursdays, dates worth keeping in mind for tour schedules. In addition, the
tour imparts interesting facts and figures on the other individual exchange
institutions as well as the information exchanges which are an integral
part of the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce.
Tours of the Exchange are a service offered free of charge by the Hamburg
Chamber of Commerce. For further information or reservations feel free to contact
us directly.
